Rosé tinted glasses at Onderkloof Wine Estate

Onderkloof Wine Estate,

Onderkloof Wine Estate, the Swiss-owned boutique winery situated in Somerset West, launched their Cabernet Franc Rosé 2018 to the public on Saturday, 2 June 2018. The event attracted Cabernet Franc as well as Rosé lovers.

What makes this wine so unique, beyond its exquisite coral hue, is that it is a 100% Cabernet Franc Rosé. This is exceptionally rare as Cabernet Franc usually forms part of blends and Rosé is often made up of two or more varietals. This dry Rosé reveals strawberry and raspberry flavours to the attuned nose and is sure to delight even those who do not generally find rosé appealing.

Dashing winemaker, Yves Musfeld, told us how he came to make the Onderkloof Bottleneck Rosé “quite by accident”. The farm had a larger yield of cabernet franc grapes than anticipated. This resulted in a bottleneck in the cellar due to lack of space. The only space available was the press and so began the creation of the aptly named Onderkloof Bottleneck Rosé.
