The Absa KKNK received a Fiësta award for the second consecutive year as the Most Popular Festival in South Africa. The Festival takes place from 29 March to 5 April in Oudtshoorn. The program for the upcoming 20th Absa KKNK is compared by acting CEO Rhode Snyman as a choir in harmony.
The festival boasts with 22 new written plays and 5 new translations and adaptations of existing plays into Afrikaans as part of the more than 150 productions that will be part of the upcoming festival and three visual artists instead of the standard one will be honoured this year.
Well-known actors that will be performing at the festival include; Sandra Prinsloo, Marius Weyers, Anna-Mart van der Merwe. Amanda Strydom, Tobie Cronjé, Marion Holm, Shaleen Surtie-Richards, Gys de Villiers, Brendan Daniels, Dawid Minnaar, Antoinette Kellermann and Theodore Jantjies. The program also includes 20 comedies containing three flagship farces; Boeing-Boeing, My Boetie se sussie se ou and Vat hom Flaffie.
The festival will kick off in style with the Bravo ball – a stylish fundraiser in aid of the Theatre Benevolent fund. The Huisgenoot Klein Karoo 20 Jaar Pops, a special sunset concert with Nataniël, Laurika Rauch, Kurt Darren, Dorothy Masuka, Karen Zoid, Emo Adams, Nianell, Thandi Klaasen, Amanda Strydom, Koos Kombuis, Zanne Stapelberg and Die Groot Kaktus op die Vlaktes with Freshly Ground, Springbok Nude Girls, Van Coke Cartel, Gangs of Ballet, Bittereinder, Black Cat Bones and Skynmaagde celebrate productions that, due to its impact and popularity have become synonymous with the festival.
The program also consists of various classical and contemporary music productions with fresh collaborations of legendary music stars and promising new talent such as Laurika Rauch and Elvis Blue in Hart en See. Versatile Amanda Strydom also celebrates her 20th Absa KKNK with a contemporary production State of the heart and a classical production with the Libertas-choir, Misa Criolla and Navidad Nuestra.
Artists that will also be welcomed onto the various music stages include: Theuns Jordaan, Steve Hofmeyr, Emo Adams, Chris Chameleon, Jack Parow, Kurt Darren, Bobby van Jaarsveld, Mathys Roets, Brandon October, Karen Kortjé en Dr. Victor and the Rasta Rebels. The popular Akoestiese Klanke; an intimate platform for songwriters and friends will be hosting David Kramer, Koos Kombuis, Arno Carstens & Francois van Coke and Karen Zoid & Zolani Mahola.
Accessibility to festival events and family entertainment is a priority for the festival organisers and is emphasized in the offers for the Rivierbuurt. Entrance is free to children under the age of 15 accompanied by an adult and a weekly pass to all the activities, kids’ entertainment, kykNET-music stage, the Son Top 40-program in the evenings, 400 stalls wine and food pairings, an expo for outdoor enthusiast and amusement park.

Sneeuwitjie en die Sewe Zombies
From the desk of the dramatic arts educator at Hoër Meisieskool Bloemhof comes the production, Sneeuwitjie en die Sewe Zombies.It won the 49th ATKV Tienertoneelkompetisie in 2014; best directing was achieved by Andre Gerber, Lani Celliers and Christiaan Olwagen, including best treatment of technical aspects, and best actress in a leading role.
It features original music by Andre Gerber and lyrics by Christiaan Olwagen. Lisa-Jean Malan plays leading actress role of Sterretjie.The Hoër Meisieskool Bloemhof will perform this production at ABSA KKNK festival.
